Biography
French painter of the Rococo movement with an extensive influence on the arts, not only painting but decorative arts, costume, film, poetry and music as well. The Britanica of 1911 said: "In his treatment of landscape background and of the atmospheric surroundings of the figures can be found the germs of Impressionism." As recently as 2008 a lost painting of his sold for 15 million Euros.
