Biography
Avant-garde Scottish novelist, poet and biographer. He was a life-long heroin addict. In the early 1950s he lived in Paris and edited the literary magazine Merlin. He also worked in the United States where he hell foul of the law as a result of his addiction. Friends enabled him to escape to Canada and he eventually made his way back to London where he remained until his death in 1984.
