Wallis Simpson

Biography

American socialite and jet-set lady from 1931. After her second divorce she met Prince Edward, heir to the throne of Great Britain, and they began an affair. It was a totally unacceptable match as she was American and a divorcee.

When Edward became King Edward VIII in 1936, he reigned for less than a year when he abdicated "to marry the woman I love. They married on 3 June 1937. They were titled the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, but she was never received in court. They maintained a bland lifestyle of high society functions and travel.

The Duchess died on 24 April 1986, aged 89, in Paris, France. It is presumed that she suffered from Alzheimer's disease in her late years.

Source Notes

Rodden has 10:30 pm in Profiles of Women, p. 389, writing: "R.H. Oliver quotes the attending physician in a letter in AA 1/1937, as 'he recalled the unusual circumstances of her birth.'" Roden gave an A rating in the 1996 edition of her book, but only DD when she put the data in Astrodatabank.

AA 4/1945 wrote, "The physician, Dr. Allen, said she was born between 9:00 to 11:00 AM." In Wynn magazine 10/1944, Blanca Holmes wrote, "In a letter from her, she gave 6:00 to 7:00 AM, rectified by Homes to 7:00 AM."

(Sabian Symbols No.982 gives 7:00 AM. AA 4/1950 has "between 9:00 and 11:00 AM." AA 11/1957 gives 5:30 AM. PC quotes AA 8/1945 for 6:00 to 7:00 AM. AQ Srping 1937 stated, "We have unimpeachable information of 5:30 AM, Baltimore."

Barbara May writes, 11/1988, "The book by Charles Higham, "The Secret Life of the Duchess of Windsor," McGraw-Hill, 1988, gives June 19, 1895, a year earlier. Higham quotes the date from a census report on the Warfield household in 1900. He claims that no B.C. exists and that her parents were married 11/19/1896, so the child was illegitimate. He suggests that her birth and pro-Nazi sympathies were the reason that she was unable to marry the Prince." Inasmuch as Higham writes of gossip and scandal, often quite extreme and unsubstantiated, in his unauthorized biographies, his reports are highly questionable.
