Biography
Italian doctor and scientist internationally known for his research on pregnancy and childbirth that led him to publish the theory of ovarian uterine revolution and the active dilation of the uterus in 1922. His studies focused on the female egg cell and on the origin and development of the placenta by demonstrating the endocrine nature of the deciduous basal. His studies on the bladder-vaginal fistulas, which were the first to cure with surgery, are also notable. His major work is well-known in medical literature as the Muscular Mucus of Sfamene. He died in Torregrotta on 7 October 1955, aged 86.
