Biography

French author and historian concerned with social and economic changes of the 15th to 18th centuries. He became widely known after the publication of his doctoral thesis, "The Peasants of Languedoc," 1966. His other noted historical works include, "Times of Feast, Times of Famine," 1971 and "The Territory of the Historian" 1979.
