Biography
Spanish banker and industrialist. He was appointed counselor of the Banco Herrero, of which he would be vice president in 1959 and president from 1961 to 1995, the year in which El Herrero joined the La Caixa Group. He was also a director of Banco Urquijo and Banco Hispano Americano. The Law of incompatibilities of 1968 made him stay only with the presidency of the Blacksmith. Since that year, his only son, Ignacio Herrero Álvarez, from his marriage to Teresa Álvarez Pickman, has handled much of the bank's affairs.
In 1963 Ignacio Herrero Garralda created the Marqués de Aledo Foundation -thanks to the one that he developed at the University of Oviedo, a chair of higher studies in Asturian Economics and Economics- and in 1979 the Banco Herrero Foundation, for the promotion and development of the economic and financial research in collaboration with the Faculty of Economic Sciences of said University.
He died on 10 October 1999 at age 86.
