Biography

Prussian prince, the second son of Princess Charlotte of Prussia (1831–1855) and her husband Georg, Hereditary Prince of Saxe-Meiningen (1826-1914).

Georg died in Meiningen at 3:15 AM on 27 January 1855, aged 2. His mother Charlotte followed him three months later, dying of childbirth complications on 30 March at the age of twenty-four.

Sy Scholfield forwarded news report from "Donau-Zeitung," 19 April 1852: "Meiningen, 12. April. Soeben Nachmittags 1¾ Uhr geht uns unter Kanonendonner und Glockengeläute die freudige Kunde zu, daß Ihre k. Hoh. unsere Erbprinzessin Charlotte von einem Prinzen, dem zweiten unserer Erbherrschaft, glücklich entbunden worden ist. Die hohe Wöchnerin befindet sich, wie man hört, den Umständen nach sehr wohl." (Meiningen, 12 April. Just in the afternoon, at 1:45 o'clock, the canons and bells announce the joyful news that Princess Charlotte has happily given birth to a prince, the second of our hereditary dominion. The Princess, we hear, is very comfortable in the circumstances).
