Biography
Belgian francophone socialist politician.
Hector Denis was a Doctor of Laws (ULB, 1865) and a Doctor of Science (1868). He was professor of geography and in charge of the course of political economy. Special Agrégé (1878), he was in charge of the course of political economy at the Faculty of Sciences. He became professor extraordinary (1879), then ordinary (1888) and finally, rector of the University (1892-1894). He was elected deputy of Liege from 1894 to 1913. He was director of the Institute of Social Sciences (founded by Solvay in 1894) from 1897 to 1902. Member of the Academy (corresponding in 1892, holder in 1895), and Honorary Professor of the University of Brussels in 1912.
He died on 10 May 1913 in Brussels, aged 70.
