Biography

French cabaret singer and actor, openly gay, famous for his fanciful transvestite performances in which he caricaturised famous actresses like Cécile Sorel. With his soprano voice, he joined with the pianist Antoine Brancato (1900-1991) in the 1930s to form a famous duo, "Charpini et Brancato", specialising in parodies of famous operas or operettas that gave Charpini occasion to play with extravagance the roles of Carmen, Manon or Veronique.

Charpini died on 26 October 1987, aged 86, in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
