Biography

American operatic baritone and stage actor who appeared in several Broadway productions and was notably a leading performer at the New York City Opera from 1957 through 1979.

Since the early 1980s, Chapman lived in Los Angeles with his wife Irene where he dedicated most of his time to teaching singing. He also taught on the voice faculty of the University of San Diego. In later years, he continued occasionally to perform in Los Angeles theatre. He died on 24 April 2012, shortly before his 89th birthday.
