Biography

Brazilian soccer pundit and retired player, who competed as a forward with eight clubs from 1980 to 1996. He played with the Brazil national soccer team in 19 matches between April 1985 and June 1986, scoring nine goals.

Following his retirement from professional soccer, Casagrande has worked as an analyst for Globo. In September 2007, Casagrande was involved in a weekend traffic accident, and was briefly in a coma after his car rolled and hit parked cars.

He has said he overdosed on drugs four times from 2005–2007 and once almost went into a coma after using drugs. He finished his drug rehabilitation treatment in April 2008. He has confessed that he was ashamed for doping four times while playing for Portuguese club FC Porto, during the 1986–1987 season.

Walter Casagrande suffered a heart attack on the morning of 29 May 2015. He underwent angioplasty, a surgical intervention to unblock arteries.
