Biography
Norwegian shipowner and aviation man who was a central figure in the development of Norwegian aviation. He was the son of entrepreneur Ludvig G. Braathen who founded the shipping company Ludvig G. Braathens Rederi and the airline Braathens SAFE. From 1977 to 1989 he was managing director of Braathens SAFE, and from 1992 he was chairman of the board.
In 1989, Braathen was one of the initiators behind the creation of Norsk Jetmotor, which later became GKN Aerospace Norway. Also that year he founded the helicopter company Braathens Helikopter, which had its main base at Stavanger Airport, Sola.
Braathen died on 31 December 2003 aged 79.
