Arthur Balfour

Biography

Scottish Conservative politician who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 11 July 1902 to 5 December 1905. First Earl of Balfour, Viscount Traprain, he was the author of "A Defense of Philosophical Doubt" (1879).

In December 1916 he became Foreign Secretary in David Lloyd George's coalition. He was frequently left out of the inner workings of foreign policy, although the Balfour Declaration on a Jewish homeland bore his name.

Never married, he died on 19 March 1930, aged 81, in Woking, England.

On 28 July 2017 Sy Scholfield forwarded birth certificate from National Records of Scotland [1] [2], showing place of birth as Whittinghame [in East Lothian, Scotland], no time of birth recorded.
