Pedro Balanzátegui

Biography

Spanish Carlist military figure and politician. Twice mayor of León, he was executed after the failure of the Carlist uprising, shot at dawn on 6 August 1869 at age 53 in Valcobero.

"Era la madrugada del día 31 de enero de 1816. A las dos de la madrugada había nacido un niño y en la Iglesia parroquial de Santa María la Real , con aires de fortaleza, que está situada mirando escorzadamente a las aguas rugientes , se bautizaba el mismo día ..."

(Translation: It was the early morning of 31 January 1816. At two in the morning a child had been born and in the parish Church of Santa María la Real, with an air of fortress, which is situated looking foreshorteously at the roaring waters, and baptized the same day ...)
