Biography

American actress who rose to international fame playing "Rachel," the sexy waitress on the immensely popular television comedy show Friends (1994-2004). She has since starred in various commercially successful comedy and drama films and TV series, and forged a parallel career as a film and TV producer. Aniston is the recipient of various accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. She has been included in various magazine lists of the world's most beautiful women and she is one of the world's highest-paid actresses.

The daughter of actor John Aniston, a star on the daytime soap Days of Our Lives, and his actress-model wife Nancy Dow, Jennifer and her brother Alexander grew up in a show business environment. Her godfather, the noted actor Telly Savalas, encouraged her to pursue her dream of being a "star." Most of her youth was spent in New York, although her family lived in Greece for a year. When she was nine years old, her parents’ marriage ended in divorce. At age 11, she joined the Rudolf Steiner School drama club, where she studied the creative arts, and during that same year, one of her paintings was displayed at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. Aniston later attended New York’s High School of the Performing Arts. After her graduation in 1987, she began working off-Broadway on productions like For Dear Life and Dancing on Checker’s Grave before making her television debut in 1989 in the show Molloy.

Although she had small parts on several short-lived TV shows and made guest appearances on others, she had little luck in Hollywood until her agent advised her to shed 30 pounds. Her weight loss apparently made a difference, because soon thereafter she won the role on Friends. Aniston then made a relatively successful transition to the big screen, appearing in several romantic comedies including She’s the One (1996), Picture Perfect (1997) and The Object of My Affection (1998).

She has since starred in commercially successful comedy films such as Bruce Almighty (2003), The Break-Up (2006), Marley & Me (2008), Just Go with It (2011), Horrible Bosses (2011), and We're the Millers (2013), each of which grossed over $200 million in worldwide box office receipts.

Some of her most critically acclaimed film roles include Office Space (1999), The Good Girl (2002), Friends with Money (2006), Cake (2014), and Dumplin' (2018). She returned to television in 2019, producing and starring in the Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show, for which she won her second Screen Actors Guild Award.

Jennifer dated a fellow actor, Brad Pitt for 2½ years before they were married on 29 July 2000 in Malibu, California. According to a trusted source who was in attendance but who wishes to remain anonymous, Aniston and Pitt were pronounced "man and wife" at 7:02 PM in Malibu. Aniston's mother, who penned a tell-all book, From Mother and Daughter to Friends, was not invited to the ceremony. On 7 January 2005, Aniston and Pitt announced their separation. Two months later, on 25 March 2005, she officially filed for divorce in Los Angeles. The divorce was finalized on 2 October 2005.

She and actor Vince Vaughn became an item shortly after her separation from Pitt but they announced their split in the autumn of 2006.

Aniston began a relationship with actor, director and screenwriter Justin Theroux in May 2011. In January 2012, they purchased a home in Los Angeles's Bel-Air neighborhood for roughly $22 million. On 12 August 2012, they announced their engagement, and were married on 5 August 2015, at their estate. They separated at the end of 2017.

Aniston does not have any children. She has said that she underwent IVF to try and have children when she was in her thirties and forties, but the attempts did not result in any pregnancies.

After years of aversion to social media, Aniston joined Instagram on 15 October 2019, causing the app to "break" (for hours the "follow" button became inoperable due to an overload of web traffic to her account) with the first picture of the planned Friends cast reunion for HBO Max (whose release was delayed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Within five hours and sixteen minutes, she broke the Guinness World Record for fastest time to reach one million followers on the platform.

Her father, actor John Aniston, died on 11 November 2022 at the age of 89.

Marc Penfield quotes B.C. #7097-017113 viewed at Norwalk Records Bureau in July 2001. She was born at Hollywood Community Hospital on DeLongpre but given on the B.C. as Los Angeles, the daughter of John Anthony Aniston and Nancy Ellen Dow. Thought the family name was originally Anistonopolous (or Anistissakis), her father apparently had legally changed his name prior to her birth.

Same data from Sue Jorgenson in July 2001.

Sy Scholfield quotes Aniston giving her ascendant sign in an interview: "That must be why I love it [my fitness routine], because I’m a Libra rising! Maybe that’s why it serves me very well." ("Jennifer Aniston Breaks Down Her Fitness Routine, Morning Habits, and the Simple $10 Vinegar She Sips Each Day," Cosmopolitan, 7 June 2023 [1]).
